Sanna visits a grave, Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus Week 56

Jenny Matlock

Welcome to Week 56 of Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus, a writing theme where participants are to write a fictional or non-fictional story or poem using only 100 or less words plus a given prompt. Since it is Memorial Day in the United States, the prompt for this week is "The legacy of heroes..."
Here is my text:

-------

Sanna visited her cousin and put flowers on her uncle's grave. Her cousin explained, "It was my brother who helped Daddy decide. There are only veterans here."
"The legacy of heroes..."
"Well, actually, I don't think Daddy would have called himself a hero. It wasn't what he had planned. He wanted to get a PHD. But he was drafted. He could have gotten out of it, having a college degree. But everyone of his generation felt obligated to do something."
Sanna looked at the dates, "He survived the war and lived eighty-eight years."
"Yes. And he was happy to come home. Not everyone did."

-------

Wordcount according to WordCalc: 100

Best wishes,
Anna
