Interview your pet - Anna interviews Sara Cat

Name: Sara Cat / Sara Katt
Age: 10 (Sara had her tenth birthday June 6th)

Breed/Type:A tuxedo with a little more white that usual. My great grandmother was a Norwegian Forest Cat. There is a little Angora in my background too.

Dines on: Science Plan

Favorite treat: I'm not big on food or treats. A little piece of cheese is ok sometimes.

Occupation: Besides being cute, loveable and entertaining, I have my own blog: Sara Cat writes /Sara Katt skriver. I help Anna with her blog too.

Favorite pastime: Napping in any one of our many special sleeping places around the house. This time of year it is still nice to be out in our cat-garden behind the garage.

Best trick: I am good att fetching paper balls.

Shared trait with owner: We like to cuddle together in Annas bed. We like doing book and film reviews.

Praise from the owner: Sara is a loyal pet. She is actually very shy because she was the littlest kitten in a litter of six, four brothers and one sister. But dispite her shyness towards strangers, she is always friendly and kind to me. She never hisses at me. (Anna)

If you could change one thing about your pet: I wish she were not so afraid of the children, but I can understand why she is. She can hiss and growl at them.

PhotoHunt Theme #226 - ORANGE

I took these pics of ripening mountain ash (rowan-) berries just a few days
ago. They look very orange here before they turn a darker shade of red.

This week's Photo Hunt Theme # 226 is ORANGE. I have recently done two posts with lots of pretty orange flowers, beads and jewellery. (Take a look here and here, if you have the time, but they are not PH-posts.) So I thought I would show Nature's ORANGE in these orange-coloured rowanberries...

Here you can see more of what the leaves on this Mountain ash (rowan) tree look like:

as well as the more practical side of the colour ORANGE: as a colour that is often used for people who are employed to work outside in public or near traffic.

Here is a gardener putting down new rolls of turf at an outdoor public skateboard ramp. His ORANGE work clothes are easy to see.

Looking at the Sky on Friday - Friday, August 13th 2010

This is the second time that I am linking up with 'Looking at the Sky on Fridays'. I took the children to an outdoor ramp for skateboard-riders.

When I looked up at the sky it was so boring. A greyish-white overcast sky. Nothing very exciting.

Let's hope that next week's sky will be more interesting!

Alphabe-Thursday Summer School Rainbow Yellow

Once again, it's time to play Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday Rainbow Summer School! This week's colour is Yellow! Let's start with some yellow fall flowers growing in one of the neighbours' gardens.

Here are some of my yellow buttons and beads.

A yellow-coloured crayon was always the one we used to paint the sun or fire when we were children. But yellow has its problems. If you look at yellow pigment when you are painting or printing something, you soon discover that yellow pigment is neither opaque or transparent. You cannot print plain yellow on for example brown paper. It will not cover dark coloured stock (paper). You need to first print a layer of opaque white before adding the yellow. Yellow on top of white looks clean and bright.

This was an observation that my teacher at Art School, Phil B. Meggs shared with us during a lesson for print techniques. I had both Phil and his wife Libby as teachers for several subjects at VCU. I learned so much from them. So I can't think about a colour like yellow, without remembering what Phil had to say about it many years ago. Within the world of plants, there are many lovely yellow flowers. Last week, when were doing the colour Orange, Polly of The 5th Sister asked me to post yellow lilies, because that was what she had in her bridal bouquet. That must have been a beautiful bouquet. I tried to find yellow lilies to take pictures for this post, but they only had white or pink lilies at the florist here. Sorry, Polly. I really tried. But I do have a picture of the first daffodil in our garden from earlier in the spring:

D is for Drawing - ABC-Wednesday, Round 7 - D

It's Tuesday, and time to link to Mrs. Denise Nesbitt's ABC-Wednesday. This week is devoted to the letter D. My D-word is 'DRAWING'. This is a drawing of a teepee that my son Erik made last fall. Drawing has been a very important activity ever since I was a child and even as an adult. I'm glad to see that my children like to draw.

I am sorry to say that this post has to be short. I have so much to say about the word 'drawing', but for different reasons I cannot write a longer post than this. On the other hand, 'drawing' and 'draughtsmanship' are words that I always will have reason to return to in later posts.
