Sanna visits a grave, Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus Week 56

Jenny Matlock

Welcome to Week 56 of Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus, a writing theme where participants are to write a fictional or non-fictional story or poem using only 100 or less words plus a given prompt. Since it is Memorial Day in the United States, the prompt for this week is "The legacy of heroes..."
Here is my text:

-------

Sanna visited her cousin and put flowers on her uncle's grave. Her cousin explained, "It was my brother who helped Daddy decide. There are only veterans here."
"The legacy of heroes..."
"Well, actually, I don't think Daddy would have called himself a hero. It wasn't what he had planned. He wanted to get a PHD. But he was drafted. He could have gotten out of it, having a college degree. But everyone of his generation felt obligated to do something."
Sanna looked at the dates, "He survived the war and lived eighty-eight years."
"Yes. And he was happy to come home. Not everyone did."

Sanna's dream, Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus Week 55

Jenny Matlock

This is my text for Saturday Centus Week fifty-five. SC is Mrs. Jenny Matlock's writing theme that requires us to wriite 100 words to a give prompt. This week's prompt is: "The reflections in the mirror."
Here's my text:

Sanna dreamt sometimes about her former home, where she often became very tired. There were so many stairs to climb. It seemed that the stairs were getting bigger all the time. She felt that she climbed over three steps when she only took one step at a time. Soon she had to hopp and pull herself up over each carpet-covered step like one of the month-old kittens.
There. She made it up the stairs again. The reflections in the mirror revealed her own cat, Dina, looming over her from behind. Sanna had shrunk to the size of a mouse!

Only One Doll, Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus Week 54

Jenny Matlock

"Two dolls!"
"No! I said only one." replied Sanna firmly. Clara could throw tantrums if she did not get her way. Sanna had promised one doll for Clara's birthday. It's easy to spoil a child who has had a brush with death. At one week old, Clara had open-heart-surgery. And all through it, Sanna sang for Clara. Seven years later, Clara was just like other children.
"Hush little baby, don't you cry..." sang Sanna.
She thought: "A hot temper is not a good way of winning arguments later in life. Thank Goodness, that there can be a 'later life' for Clara!"

Best wishes,
Anna
